Community Event for Eva — Join Us May 19th

Ninety-seven percent of people charged with a crime in the US agree to plea bargain for a lesser charge.  For many, this means pleading guilty despite their innocence.  Why would they do that?  Because they cannot afford to defend themselves in the US legal system as it is today: enormously expensive, grueling and dehumanizing.

Eva Ruiz Gomez is one person in that three percent who refuse to say they’re guilty when they’re not.  Against all odds she has persevered for the past year and a half.  Eva, her family and her health have all suffered, but she’s still fighting.  Her family’s resources have been drained and need to be replenished so that Eva can bring this long fight to a good ending.
Join us Saturday, May19th, at the Peace Resource Center, 1364 Fremont Blvd, in Seaside from 5 to 7pm for a reception and fundraiser that benefits Eva’s legal defense fund.  Enjoy live music by Roberto Barahona.  Sip some wine and snack on desserts & delicious foods–all donated by supportive local businesses.
Listen to MIIS Professor Jan Black, human rights champion extraordinaire, put Eva’s case into political perspective.  Browse an amazing silent auction of one-of-a-kind treats for the mind, body and spirit, including incredible artwork, pottery & handmade jewelry, a wine & cheese tasting lunch for four at Lucky Goat Family Farm, and breakfast for two at Deetjen’s Big Sur Inn.

If you are looking for a life-affirming, community-building and all-around fun way to spend your Saturday evening, join us on May 19th.  And bring a friend!  You won’t be disappointed!

For more information, call 831-238-6675 or 541-760-7624.  If you can’t be there in person, but you’re with us in spirit and wish to make a donation, checks can be made payable to “Eva Ruiz Gomez Legal Defense Trust” and mailed to: Helen Rose, 26518 Mesa Dr, Carmel, CA 93923.  Thank you!
